.JSGC (D) - LOCAL RULES (As at 10 April 2008)
1. Fairways.
Fairways start at the BLUE markers and thereafter defined by the YELLOW and BLACK topped stakes.
2. Preferred Lies.
a. A preferred lie may be taken on any area defined as fairway of the hole being played.
b. In taking a preferred lie the ball MUST be marked, the ball may then be cleaned and then placed within one club length and with the following restrictions:
· At all times it is the lie, not the line nor the area of intended swing or stance, which may be improved. The line is defined as the width of a club length in direct line to the flag of the hole being played.
If there is an obstacle or hazard within the line of play, the preferred lie is not permitted to remove the obstacle or hazard from play.
(Note: moving the ball to avoid a sprinkler head does not constitute improving the line).
· On all man made banks the move is restricted to six inches.
c. If a ball comes to rest on the 10th & 12th fairways on a bare lie and 1 club length relief is of no benefit, further relief may be taken to the nearest suitable point, no nearer the hole, and complying with Rule 2b above.
d. If the ball comes to rest on the fairway whilst the sprinklers are in operation, relief may be taken, without penalty, at the nearest point of relief. IF this happens to be off the fairway, the ball should be dropped as per the Rules of Golf and a preferred lie taken.
d. Under Rule 20-4, a ball is in play when it is replaced, whether or not the object used to mark its position has been removed. If it then rolls closer to the hole, it is played as it lies.
3. Putting Surface.
a. On the putting surface, irregularities on the line of play (e.g. shoe print) may be smoothed by drawing the sole of the shoe ACROSS the line of putt, but not by treading or pressing down on the line. The whole of the line may not be prepared to the extent to indicating line of play.
b. On the putting surface if a player’s back swing is impeded, the ball should be marked and placed not nearer the hole at the nearest point of relief. If no such relief is available (anywhere on the putting surface) then the ball may be placed directly behind, off the brown.
4. Pylons, Overhead Wires and Cables.
Through the green if a ball strikes a pylon, overhead cable or supporting guys on any hole, the player must disregard that stroke, abandon the ball and play another ball as close as possible to the spot from which the original ball was played, in accordance with Rule 20-5. (Playing next stroke from where previous stroke was played.)
5. Out of Bounds.
A ball is out of bounds if:
· It is over a boundary fence.
· On or beyond any road or track that forms a boundary of the course.
· To the right of the white stakes when playing the ninth, twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth holes, to the left of the white stakes when playing the 11th, 12th and to the right of the fence on the 15th.
6. Stones in Bunkers-Rule 24-1.
Stones in bunkers are moveable objects.
7. Rain Gullies (not man made)/Heat Cracks/Vehicle Tracks - Rule 25-1.
If a ball comes to rest in any of the above, it may be treated as GUR.
8. Immoveable Obstructions
The following are deemed as immoveable obstructions:
· The old foundations walls on the fourth, ninth and fourteenth holes.
· Paths with a base constructed of tarmac, concrete and those paths constructed of white stones defined within wooden or concrete borders. Exceptions to this are defined by Green stakes which denote the start and end of the relief. Note: these are NOT line of sight markers.
· The old boundary fencing crossing the 15th (McGill) & 16th (Nunnery) holes.
· All irrigation pipes, control boxes and sprinkler heads.
· All tee boxes.
· The wood surrounding the bunkers. If the ball is in the bunker, then relief must be taken in the hazard. If outside, then nearest point of relief.
· The steps into the bunker at the back of the 15th brown. Relief must be taken in the hazard, no nearer the hole.
· Only staked trees/bushes/plants. The protective plastic piping around some is only for their protection from strimmers and does not constitute a free drop.
9. Old Hole Plug Sunk or Raised on Line of Putt.
If the ball lies on the putting brown, the player may lift the ball and place it without penalty in the nearest position to where it lay which affords maximum relief from the condition, but not nearer the hole and not in a hazard.
10. Ground Under Repair.
Unless it specifically states that play is prohibited in the designated GUR then players may choose to play the ball as it lies. Bearing in mind that the nearest point of relief is not nearer the hole and not in a hazard.
11. Drop Zones – Leeway 12th .
The area defined by an extended line taken from the left hand side of the second bunker through the left hand side of the manhole block on the fairway is designated as GUR. A competitor may drop his ball on the nearest of the 4 Astroturf mats that is no nearer the hole.
12. Temporary Local Rules are from time to time indicated on the Notice Board at the Shop. Please be aware.
